Offering Bounties!
This is not the post that I wanted to make this week.
I wanted a new build, bug fixes, improvements, story bits, ya know, stuff.
Lot's of it is my fault. Under estimating and general laziness I suppose.
Still, there are some things that we just can't do. We all have our strengths and weaknesses. We just need to admit that sometimes.
Luckily for some of us, there's a small budget for that.
The game has a host of problems that need to be addressed. There's the biggest issue, the Inventory System. Most indie games have one of these. It's like, the most common thing. Yet often time when I asked about them, I often times got laughed at. Until one time someone graciously wrote me a simple inventory system that was well made. With some tweaking I got it to work in the current system.. Yet as the ideas grew, it was quickly became too simple for what I needed. So that's the first task. A Better Inventory System is needed to give the player a better utility for item management and storage. Then there's a whole host of other problems. I've split this into a second task.
When I thought about hiring a haxe programmer, I tried to think of a number of things I could ask them, Then I double checked again to see if there was anything else I was missing. There are probably much more then I know offhand. Yet these are the ones I've determined that have the highest priority that I can think of. This is mostly a wish list if I ever saw one, but still necessary to look into. For instance I want to have Lots Of Things On Screen. This is mostly for bullets and enemies, but that includes all the other stuff too I guess. Since I'm going for a shmup feel in enemy attacks, this is something I need. When I do something like that? It all breaks because I don't know what I'm doing. I've seen it done yes, so I dunno what I'm doing wrong.
Then there's other improvements that are needed. Questions that I have that I KNOW I'm going to get wrong. There's a little bug that's bothered me for a while no matter what system I used. Going into, and out of a building or a cave always bothered me. I never got it right. Then there's screen resolution. There's solutions, but I don't know what problems I'll run into with it, so it doesn't hurt to be cautious. There's a few other things i thought of too. A better weapon utility class, giant lasers, a simple boss pattern. Also, what the hell do I save? I dunno.
Another pressing concern that'll take the highest of the smaller concerns, is the Dialogue System. It's kind of integral to get that running properly. So I'm going to fold it into the Minor Improvements and call the task Dialogue Plus. None of the other task are necessary, the dialogue is though. So, without further ado, here are the two tasks that I need work on.
Better Inventory System - $320 Bounty
Needs to behave according to industry standards. Currently it does not. This includes stacking items, swapping out items, other problems that become apparent with use.
Dialogue Plus System - $320 Bounty
Fixing the dialogue system is critical.
You can apply to these bounties here: https://github.com/chosencharacters/squidBounties/issues/7
I've decided to do these as bounties because this is one way to reach haxe programmers. HOWEVER!
